Frequently asked questions about GPSR for web shops

1. What is GPSR?

   GPSR is the General Product Safety Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2023/988, applicable since 13 December 2024. The regulation applies to consumer products offered in the EU, including online. For a web shop this means the product page must show details of the manufacturer, the product identification and the safety information.

2. Who is the manufacturer, importer or distributor?

   The manufacturer makes the product or has it made under its own name or brand, the importer places a product from outside the EU on the EU market, and the distributor resells without being the manufacturer or importer itself. A web shop can be an importer or distributor, sometimes a manufacturer (private label). For products from a manufacturer outside the EU there must be a responsible person in the EU (Article 16 GPSR). MDC Systems does not fulfil that role.

3. What must a product page show?

   For distance sales (Article 19 GPSR) the product page must show the name, trade name or brand of the manufacturer, with postal address and electronic address. If the manufacturer is outside the EU, the name, postal address and electronic address of the responsible person in the EU (Article 16 GPSR) are shown as well. The page also shows the product identification (image, type and a batch, serial or type number) and the warnings and safety information in Dutch. MDC Systems checks product pages against eight GPSR check points, based on the GPSR information requirements (Article 19 GPSR), and puts the data in the right place per product family.

MDC Systems is not a test lab and is not the responsible person in the EU or authorised representative. The work is operational: checking product pages against the GPSR check points, requesting missing data from suppliers and putting the data in the right place per product family. Whether a product is safe is not something MDC Systems decides.

5. What is a product family?

   A product family is a group of products with the same manufacturer, the same document set and the same safety information. MDC Systems checks and fixes per product family, not per individual SKU. The price is therefore based on product families or profiles, suppliers and document complexity, never on the number of SKUs.

6. How long does a Fix Sprint take?

   A Fix Sprint takes 5 working days from Intake Complete. Intake Complete is the moment when your catalogue export, the supplier documents and the role information (manufacturer, importer or distributor) have been received by MDC Systems. Waiting time for suppliers does not count towards that lead time.

7. What does it cost?

   At MDC Systems the Mini Screen for one product is free. The GPSR Readiness Check costs €249, a Fix Sprint costs from €990 (Pilot Fix Sprint €990, Standard Fix Sprint €1,490) and Operations Care costs €199 per month, all prices excl. VAT. The amount of the Readiness Check is credited within 30 days against a follow-up. The details are on the MDC Systems pricing page.

8. What if the supplier does not respond?

   MDC Systems sends one request and one reminder; if no reply follows, the item is delivered as an open item, visibly flagged with a concrete next step. Missing data is never invented or filled in. An open item is closed only by a human.

9. Does this work with Shopify, WooCommerce and bol.com?

   Yes. MDC Systems delivers remediation files for Shopify, WooCommerce and bol.com: a CSV export per platform plus ready-made product page blocks. The files are ready for import; MDC Systems does not enter them into your web shop itself, unless that has been agreed.

10. What is Operations Care?

    Operations Care is the monthly check by MDC Systems of your product pages against the GPSR check points. You receive an open-items overview and an alert when something changes. Operations Care costs €199 per month excl. VAT.

11. Does MDC Systems work with agencies?

    Yes. At MDC Systems an agency has several web shops under one account, with a customer portal per web shop. The agency sees only the shops linked to it.

12. Does this also work for dropshipping?

    Dropshipping is out of scope as long as your role (manufacturer, importer or distributor) and the manufacturer details are not clear. Once the role is established and there are sources for the manufacturer details, MDC Systems can carry out the work. Missing data is never invented or filled in.
